unless you are planning a big budget for your kitchen, solid wood cabinets are most likely not an option. For new owners, or people who have never bought kitchen cabinets before, it is not rare to get a surprised reaction when they hear that there are very few cabinet makers that use wood Solid to the entire cabinet (unless you have custom cabinetry and stating that they use solid wood).

There are several reasons why solid wood is not used for more housing, but the main reason being that it is too expensive. To use solid wood for the whole firm would put them out of the price range of about 90% of consumers. The other reason is that there are several engineering products that are equally strong, but can be 1.2 to 2.3 the cost of real wood. Of course, all engineered products offer the same strength and durability, it is important to examine the materials used for making cabinets. Most cabinet manufacturers are still using solid wood for face frames and doors (the most exposed parts of the cabinet), but here are some common materials, you find that are used for housing.

Particles
Particles is exactly what is looks like. . . wood particles. They are usually laminated wood shavings and pressed against one with a resin or glue to hold it. As it is composed of smaller chips, it does not offer the same strength when it comes to holding screws and nails. The screws and nails holding will tend to weaken over time, even without bursting. Particleboard is also likely to be damaged if moisture is not properly protected.

Fibreboard
Think like a fibreboard carton very thick and dense. It is actually composed of wood fibers and held together tightly by an epoxy resin or mixture of wood glue. Even if a panel of thick fibers may be a hard material, it is very sensitive to moisture. This usually results in swelling or deformation of the material, and it conserves water. Fibreboard also require a veneer or paper with a wooden model in the end, which may tend to peel off.

MDF
Fiberboard MDF or medium density is a very dense material. It is a combination of wood chips, fiber and epoxy resin or making it a solid material. The biggest drawback of MDF chips or chips. If thick enough, it can hold as much weight as the real wood, but it will be affected by water or moisture.

Plywood
It is my preference when it comes to building cabinets. Plywood is a series of thin slices of wood where the grain is alternated. The layers of wood are then glued and clamped. Plywood offers the greatest strength, because alternative models of grain that contributes dispurse weight. Plywood is also less likely to be affected by moisture, because it does not allow water to penetrate into the bonding agent.

When it comes to strength and overall durability of your cabinets, it is strongly recommended that you focus on cabinets feature a solid plywood cabinet box. Not only will your cabinets take longer, but they are less likely to be affected by the moisture associated with normal kitchen.
